I just love how various Dynamics NAV error messages mean totally different things for people working in different departments. For example, if you received error message (usually, when exporting data to Excel):
The operating system returned error (131):
An attempt was made to move the file pointer before the beginning of the file.
And you are:
- end-user: Grrrrr! What’s wrong with this computer? I hate this system!
- consultant: Operating system error? It’s not something I have seen… In your place, I would try calling helpdesk team, they might have seen this error message before.
- helpdesk: Of course, we can help you! Could you tell us, what steps did you take to get this error message?
- developer: Simple! Your temporary table has hit the limit of 2 GB!
In this instance, developer is right, but for end-user such explanation would be more or less meaningless. I once too was searching for detailed explanation of this error message and the closest I could get was kriki’s answer:
Because of historical reasons, a file created or opened by Navision CANNOT superate 2GB. If it superates these 2GB, you get that error.
