There are so many little bits and bobs of default Dynamics NAV functionality that you do not use every day. But, when you get a not so simple question (for example: Account 2120 has “Direct-Posting” set to No, can I change it back to Yes? Or – Why is the balance of Finished Goods account not equal to the balance of Inventory Valuation report?), these little bits can become very useful (to start searching for answers).
G/L Account Where-Used List
This window lists the setup tables where a G/L account is used. When you set up the program, you filled in setup tables (for example, the posting group tables) to specify which G/L accounts the program uses as posting accounts for which types of transactions. You use this window to get an overview of which setup tables cause the program to automatically post to a specific account.
Each line in the window refers to one line in a setup table. The window can list several lines from the same setup table if, for example, the account is used for more than one posting group code in a posting setup table.
You can see details for a single line by clicking the Show Details button.
Basically, if you would go to Chart of Accounts, click on any account (or open G/L Account card),
click Account > Where-Used list,
and get a list of various setups (and combinations of setups) where selected G/L Account has been used.
Not only that, but you can also dig deeper, by clicking on “Show Details”, and open actual setup form for review.
So, when was the last time you check function Account > Where-Used List on G/L Account card in Dynamics NAV? And why?
